WEATHER AND COVID

WEATHER

CIEx owners and captains have decades of experience in the Santa Barbara Channel and Channel Islands. Our experience helps us make decisions, but we are only human and the weather is still very complex… see below.

Strong winds and/or very large swell are generally the conditions that force us to cancel trips. The weather at the Channel Islands is localized and we monitor it carefully using a variety of methods.

We seldom have to cancel trips due to the weather during our peak season (May-November), but it does happen.

General weather forecasts do not predict the conditions that we’re monitoring for. We use many geographical models with various spacing and altitude configurations. Some of these are very good at indicating unfavorabel marine conditions far in advance… but not always.

We may make inclement weather cancellations up to three days in advance but most cancellations due to weather are made within 12 hours of departure. In some cases, we may need to cancel the morning of your trip.

  • FULL refund or credit for any weather cancellations prior to departure.

COVID-19

Feb 15, 2022

  • We follow guidelines issued by the County of Santa Barbara and the United States Coast Guard.
  • We sterilize and clean all surfaces in all quarters of the vessel after each trip.
  • If you are not feeling well, please stay home and contact us.
  • At this time masks are not required.
